Virtual Lab on heart beats

We had just did a Virtual lab by listing to a virtual heart beat and deciding what kind of heart was it. What effects it had to it. The first one was a male heart beat. His name is Alex A. Aorta. He is a 30 year old male, and currently is having a heart problem. Alex came in complaining of syncope. The patient mentions that he has lost a sister earlier to heart disease and he is worried that heart disease runs in the family.

In the exam room I had to listen to his heart. It didn't sound like a regular heart beat. What a regular heart beat sounds is a Lub dub. His was nothing like that. As I was listening to the heart beat the heart sound indicates a Systolic Murmur.

The murmur occurs between the lub and the dub. This means that the problem may be narrowing of the outflow from the left ventricle to the aorta or leaking of the mitral valve. We then go to the echo room to visualize the heart movement. This is what it looked like.

In this picture it shows that the person has a dilated aorta This condition is known as aortic aneurysm. Aortic aneurysm is a potentially very dangerous condition so surgical invention may be necessary to replace the aorta with artificial prosthesis.

After that we took him in for an MRI. In the MRI it showed what was wrong with his heart. Its just with its aortic aneurysm and nothing else. As you can see the problem within the heart.

Then next we start with his Pedigree. To see who else can be involved in getting what this man has or how does it run in the family.

In his family this trait is Dominant trait. So what this is telling us is that his father had it then it went to his sister and him then to his daughter and to his sister son. So it runs in the family. So the family is suffering from Marfans Syndrome.

That was all about the Virtual lab that we did. There are two more other patients but I just thought I'd show you one and show what a Virtual lab is all about.
