Neurophysiology Lab

Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this Lab is to see how Neurons are effective in this leech.
The Neurons are in the veins of the leech.

Materials:

  1. Feather
  2. Probe
  3. Forceps
  4. Scissors
  5. Pins
  6. Scalpel
  7. Dissection Tray
  8. Leech Tank
  9. 20% Ethanol
  10. Leech Tongs
  11. Dissection Microscope
  12. Micromanipulator
  13. Oscilloscope
  14. Leech

Procedures:

Step 1. Overview of Equipment used in the lab
Step 2. Anesthetize and dissect the leech
Step 3. Remove leech innards and observe ganglion
Step 4. Cut out the ganglion window
Step 5. Isolate one ganglion
Step 6. Cut the ganglion sinus
Step 7. Probe and identify ganglion sensory cells

Results

As I used each of the materials to see what type of cell the leech is each one shows up different. At first I had to do it a couple of times because I would take my eye off of it, but after a while I finally saw what each one was. So after I did all that the cell type that I had was a dyed cell type p.

Conclusions:

In conclusion after going through all the steps of the experiment the leech got cut up more and more every time. The nervous system is throughout the body. As I was cutting the leech I read that it said it was crazy how the leech nervous system was located in the body. My hypothesis is true that the neurons are located within the body. So it takes a lot of cutting till u reach them.
